On his 80th birthday, Richard decided to surprise his daughter, Deidre. It had been years since they last saw each other, and he was eager to reconnect.

But when Deidre opened the door, she was in tears. “Dad? What are you doing here?” Her reaction wasn’t joy—it was fear. She quickly made an excuse and shut the door, leaving Richard hurt and suspicious.

Peering through the window, he saw two men confronting Deidre. “You’re months behind on your loans,” one growled, pulling a gun. Richard’s heart pounded as they ransacked her house before leaving. Determined to help, he followed them to a shady club and confronted their boss, Mr. Marco.

Richard learned Deidre owed $80,000. With only $20,000 in savings, he agreed to drive a mysterious car to Canada. Near the border, police became suspicious. Panicked, Richard fled—only for the car to sink into a river.

Desperate, he mortgaged his home to pay Deidre’s debt. But as they faced Mr. Marco, police raided the club, arresting the criminals.

Safe at last, Deidre broke down. “I’m so sorry, Dad.” Richard held her close. “Everything will be okay.” No matter what, they had each other.
