In November 2013, Adric White, 18, entered a Family Dollar armed with a gun and took employees hostage, demanding money. However, a legally armed Good Samaritan intervened and turned the situation around. The Samaritan, pointing his gun at White, told him not to move, but White turned toward him. The Samaritan fired five shots, hitting White and restraining him.
White’s family argued the Good Samaritan should not have shot him, but it was deemed reasonable for him to act to protect others.
