You will undoubtedly cry at this dog story among the many terrible ones.

The primary character is the loveliest dog, Maru. And I have no doubt at all that he would exchange all of his celebrity for a different life situation if he could speak.

Leashed in a remote area close to a perilous cliff, Maru lost ten years of life to neglect. He never gave up, though, on the possibility that tomorrow will be better!

Heartbreak and Years of Isolation

Story of Maru starts when he was a small puppy fourteen years ago. His owner paid an astronomical sum for him when he was just a few months old, and he stayed in the household for four years. Heartbreak then struck!

Maru was given over to another owner, who chose to keep him outside on a leash. This adorable boi could never have imagined that he would spend the bulk of his life behind bars.

He was confined in a little dog house on a short leash. The edge was so near that every day his life was in jeopardy.

Although we had come across a number of abandoned dogs over the years, this was the worst place. The dog thought the little building looked like a house, but it was perilously close to a cliff, the rescue crew said on Instagram.

Years were spent by poor Maru crowded beneath a tiny metal sheet that served as a roof. He was hiding there from the cold and the torrential rains. Saddly, he was also compelled to use the restroom there.

When they learned of his story, the excellent folks at WEACT launched a rescue operation. The idea that Maru had spent years alone with no one to support him shocked them the most.

That they arrived too late pained them much. Though Maru was already a senior, he had not had the opportunity to experience the real meaning of a comfortable home throughout the previous ten years.

The most amazing thing happened when the rescuers, dreading the worst, went up to him. Maru wags his tail and smiles the warmest greeting, not being combative and unsociable.

Having people about made him incredibly joyful, as though he was attempting to convey to them how alone and depressed he had been all along.

Sunshine at the End of the Tunnel

He was shortly taken up in a kennel and driven to their facility by the team.

Maru was pretty anxious on the way to a new life, but as he got to the rescue, all of his fears went away. A large bowl of doggo food was brought to him, which he quickly finished.

Though his fur suggested differently, he was thin and terribly hungry. Maru appeared to be an overweight boi because of the multiple layers of fur hanging from his body.

“His body looked like an armor with the tangled mess of fur hanging on it.” WEACT posted.

Next was a grooming session… and still more heartache!

Ten years after his matted fur was finally cut, Maru appeared to be a small boi. He was severely underweight; he needed to put on at least fifteen pounds to appear normal.

It was evident everywhere that the years had left marks of his difficult existence. Along with many missing teeth, he had scars all over his body. The worst part was – Maru was diagnosed with stage-2 heartworms.

Yet, despite all of that, he was so loving and affectionate – just happy to be far away from that small, inadequate structure.

Maru still has a long way to go, but his caregivers will make sure to do absolutely everything to help him. Their first concern is to keep this lovely person as comfortable as they can.
