President-elect Donald Trump has increased his margin of victory in the Electoral College against former Democrat presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.
The state of Nevada has been officially called in favor of the president elect, giving him an Electoral College lead of 301 – 226 with Arizona and its 11 electoral votes, which are leaning toward the president-elect, still waiting to be called.
In the 2020 presidential election President Joe Biden took the state of Nevada by 2.4 percent but on Saturday at 12:15 AM The Associated Press called the state for President-elect Trump.
Since 1992 the state has voted for every Democrat presidential candidate, other than the two elections where it voted for former President George W. Bush, Fox News reported.
The two candidates held several events in Nevada in the weeks before the election attempting to gain the state’s votes.
“Nevada, I am here asking for your vote,” the vice president sad at a rally in Reno in the days before the election. “I am asking for your vote. And here is my pledge to you, and I got your back, as president, I pledge to you to seek common ground and common sense solutions to the challenges you face. I am not looking to score political points.”
“I am looking to make progress. And I pledge to listen to experts, to listen to those who will be impacted by the decisions I make and to listen to people who disagree with me. Because that’s what real leaders do,” she said.
During a campaign rally in Las Vegas over the summer, Trump made headlines by pledging to push for legislation that would eliminate income taxes on tips. It’s likely that helped push him to a victory given that the city, as well as much of the rest of the state, relies on tourism and the service and hospitality industries, where tipping provides a major portion of income.
The Republican Party employed a strategy that served them well in this presidential election that they shied away from in the last election
The Party surprised many by surpassing Democrats in early in-person voting and nearly closing the gap in registered voters as Election Day approached.
Historically, Democrats held a turnout advantage in the state thanks to the “Reid Machine,” a robust political network created by the late Sen. Harry Reid, who served as U.S. Senate majority leader from 2007 to 2015. This machine was designed to consolidate resources and boost support for Democratic candidates across all levels of the ballot.
His strategy relied on networks that went beyond the traditional party infrastructure, with a strong focus on the heavily immigrant Culinary Union. Representing around 60,000 casino workers, the union played a key role in voter registration, phone banking, and canvassing efforts.
The state was also home to a tight contest for Senate which was called on Saturday by The Associate Press in favor of Democrat incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen as she defeated her opponent, Republican Sam Brown.
With his victory secure the president-elect has named his White House Chief of Staff, the first woman to ever hold the role, Susie Wiles, who was co-chair of his campaign in 202.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in a statement.
“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud,” Trump added.
