On a frigid day, picture stumbling upon a dog who is laying helplessly in a little kennels.
So it was with Prima, whose owners had left her for the winter.
Poor Prima nearly died from starvation and eating all she could to survive.
Prima had not much time to live when she was found.
Her life depended on medical intervention fast.
Help Requested
While strolling through a Houston, Texas, neighborhood park, two kind volunteers named Jannel and Robby came into Prima.
She lay in a kennel, hardly able to move, when they arrived.
Prima had obvious ribs and a bloated belly.
Robby and Jannel understood they had to support her.
She warily took the food and drink that the volunteers handed her.
“I was shocked when she came out. She was starving with a very large stomach. I immediately started calling, knowing she needed to be rescued immediately,” Janell wrote on Facebook.
Mission rescue
Robby and Jannel called the animal rescue group Corridor Rescue Inc. right away.
Prima was transported gingerly to the refuge, where she was given food, drink, and medical attention.
Prima was afraid but she knew her rescuers would look after her.
“This girl was so starving that after she was dumped, she ate everything she came across and kept eating,” Corridor Rescue said.
The worst diagnosis
Prima was heartbreakingly diagnosed with end-stage heartworm illness at the veterinarian.
This indicated that her heart was infected with advanced and challenging to eradicate worms.
Prima was at the time regarded as a hospice patient, and the rescuers’ primary objective was to get her into a cozy foster home where she would feel loved and safe.
Prima lived a life of suffering and neglect, so say her rescuers.
Prima was obviously abused and abandoned mercilessly, despite her mysterious past, which finally caused her to suffer from long-term stress.
Apart from her physical state, this youngster’s extreme trauma made it difficult for her to adapt to a new setting and people.
Last hope
Her only choice, the veterinary team determined after much thought, would be intrusive, quick heartworm treatment.
That translated into several months of several injections.
Primma’s only hope lay in this treatment, and the rescue crew wanted to give her a chance.
She also got medications to aid her and food and drink every few hours.
Prima kept doing better as she received treatment.
Her distended belly lessened and she began to feel much better.
Everyone was surprised when her heartworms began to disappear.
Despite the setbacks, Prima showed incredible resilience and determination to survive.
An other start
Prima was ready for a new chapter in her life following months of therapy and care.
A kind family greeted her with wide arms.
After receiving the love and care she so richly earned, Prima developed into a contented, energetic dog.
Luna has a whole new life ahead of her because of the incredible rescuers who never gave up on her.
