My almost 5y/o female mastiff mix has has this thing in her ear for about 2-3 years. Its been there for some time, always thought it was a wart. Its never bothered her other than when she itches her ear and catches her nail on it, which is once in a blue moon.
I took her into the vet about 3 months ago and was prescribed Otamax liquid, twice a day in the ear and on the actual sore. She lets me apply the liquid easily too, me touching her ear doesnt bother her, atleast shes never showed signs it does, shes always very nonchalant about it.
It didnt do anything, if anything I noticed it irritated her ear. I brought her into the vet again about 1 month ago, told her vet it hasnt helped and he now wants to do surgery. The thing is, he told me its just dead tissue. Its never bothered her before. He wants me to drop $1k on surgery to remove it.
Is this necessary? I dont want to put her through all that stress of surgery and aftercare for something that wont make a difference. Also the cost too, we plan on getting her spayed in July(shes on her heat right now)which just wont be possible if the surgery is necessary.
Info: she was not in my immediate care until 2023 end. I wouldve taken her in when I first noticed it, had I the chance to. Thankyou for any advice!
