Look into such eyes. I think Brighe deserves what happened to her. On Halloween of 2020, her owners claimed she escaped and hasn’t been seen since. She was in critical shape and could not stand or walk by herself when they eventually located her. Her owners turned her to a rescue organization since they could not provide the care she required.

The rescue team could see Brighe was not in good health because she had not been a stray for a long time. She had been purposely starved by someone with expertise.

Her refeeding has to be done painfully slowly to prevent organ failure. But Brighe fought back, and after several days in the hospital, she was able to feed by herself.

Every day that went by Brighe advanced. With weight gain, she began to walk by herself. Brighe received the love and care she needed to recover from her foster family, and gradually her kind disposition and forgiving nature showed through.

Then finally arrived the day Brighe had been waiting for—the day she could return home. She ate every four hours and played with toys at her foster home. Her development was amazing; she was soon going for daily walks and practicing leash manners.

Brighe was still far from done, though. Ultimately, after 62 days of recovery, she was adopted by a kind family that welcomed her with open arms. The parents are thrilled to have Brighe join their family and she now has a new sibling.

Every day Brighe shows that love and forgiveness can prevail even in the face of unfathomable cruelty. She is strong and persistent. Brighe’s story reminds us all that every dog has the right to a happy and healthy life and that even the most wounded hearts may recover and thrive with the right care and support.
