Although dogs make the best friends, it is much more difficult to say goodbye to them when they are colleagues. This is the seven-year career of German Shepherd K9 Tommy with the Ohio Department.
Tommy was coping with serious cancer and needed to be put to sleep after years of excellent care. This is how law enforcement organizations throughout Ohio honored him.
After serving seven years, Tommy, a K9 German Shepherd, was put to sleep.
Tommy, the German Shepherd, bid his handler Jeremy Berger, an officer from the Department of National Resources, his final farewell after seven years of excellent work.
Regretfully, the severe kind of cancer this K9 had was incurable. Jeremy made the decision to put him down since he was in excruciating agony and could not even carry out simple canine tasks.
But word spread of his years of dedication and faultless work. Law enforcement organizations from throughout Ohio chose to honor Tommy one last time with their K9s.
They waited to applaud this incredible K9 in front of Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic. All of us were going through a very emotional time, but Jeremy and his family were particularly so. Tommy was put to sleep and then placed on a stretcher with a flag covering him.
There was a minute of silence as officers and their canines stood there, remembering their colleague.
The Tragic Event Devastated Jeremy and His Family
The final group to bid farewell to Tommy were Jeremy and his family. Witnessing his final appearance hurt them all.
The last transmission occurred over the radio as they were saying their goodbyes.
When it came to 3280, you were a reliable partner, Officer Tommy. I appreciate you being a gentleman and standing up to protect your spouse and the people of Ohio. The duration of your watch is up. Take it easy. Despite your departure, you will be remembered.
Go easy, Tommy.
This heartfelt goodbye moved Ohio cops. Tommy stopped his watch, and they started crying.
Tommy was one additional K9 dog that sacrificed everything for the American people. We shall always cherish his memory and his service. Tommy, please take some rest. You were a decent youngster!
