Not that she chose to live on the streets. Her earlier abandonment had been by someone.

It was too late to run from the streets, though, when she learned she was giving birth. There was not time to locate a place to stay. She needed every strength to bring the babies into the world; they were on their way.

This mother of an abandoned dog exhibited the power and fragility that a mother holds within.

It just crushed my heart to see a new canine mother lying helpless next to her newborns that were born a few hours ago.

The picture was screamed, shouted, and yelled for aid!

There was nothing more in this sad dog mother.

In so many ways, she was broken, how could she be strong?

Her collar says her prior owners abandoned her earlier. Her babies had to be the reason for it. Looking for a quiet place to give birth, this lovely girl was wandering the streets without food, drink, or shelter.

Plans do, however, occasionally remain just that—plans. She was shocked into labor and forced to give birth on a piece of cardboard on the street.

There came into this world six puppies.Saddly, as their mother pushed them out, two of them were already angels.

The mama grabbed the last ounce of her power and stood up even though she was beyond fatigued. She had to protect her small children.

She had no idea those folks were attempting to support her. She was defending her children to the hilt, behaving angrily. She seems unaware that not everyone is out to get her or that occasionally people can be nice.

Before the rescue crew was able to apprehend the mother and transfer her and her children somewhere safe, she attacked them three times.

That momma having enough milk to feed her babies reassured the rescuers back at the shelter. Mommy needed to be fed as well, now.

She was beyond tired, starving, and hankering after a nice dinner.

Dogs typically eat one to two meals a day, but that day the mother ate three times.Over her first two meals, she ate roughly five pounds of liver!She was that much hungry.

The puppies were fine beyond the crucial first 48 hours. They began to develop, to open their eyes, and to relish the splendor of puppyhood.

The mother was doing well too, if a little anxious and scared around people.That is acceptable though. Dog mama will eventually find it in her heart to trust people once more.

Both the unfortunate mother and her babies would have perished from starvation if it weren’t for these wonderful folks, who adore dogs.

The mommy was eventually granted the life she always deserved after all that hardship in her early years.

I am aware that not every abandoned dog can be saved. The world cannot be cured of hunger or all adopted. But at least we can feed the dogs on our streets with a few extra dollars. The amount of stray dogs in need would be much reduced if everyone chose to contribute.
