The death of old habits is slow. Particularly when having them is pleasant. The relatives of a dead owner abandoned Scooter, a senior Chihuahua. Scooter was sent to a shelter by his owner’s family after ten years of loving and caring for him.
But the relationship between a dog and its owner is not readily shattered. This turn of circumstances left the twelve-year-old Chihu bewildered and grieving, and she struggled to fit in with her new surroundings.
Scooter had hip issues on top of the loss of his long-time owner and the desertion by the surviving family. That increased the difficulty of finding a new house.
In an effort to get word out about what a wonderful boy Scooter was, the Humane Society of Branch Count, Michigan, shared pictures of him curled up.
Distant but Not Alone, Scooter Watched Carefully
The dog quickly drew the attention of appropriate adopters with his independent and non-intrusive personality.
With the way he was brought to the shelter, fate seems to have played Scooter, but Jessica Lynn Howard showed that she would not let this Chihuahua wallow in the grief of his past.
Talking with her husband, they made the decision to adopt Scooter right away. The Human Society of Branch County announced his adoption, and the comment section erupted.
Still, given her history of saving Scooter’s species, I believe Jessica was the happiest of the group. Jessica attests that the dog continued to snuggle himself in at night as a tribute to his departed owner.
When night falls… Still, he curls himself up. Though I’ve tried to tuck him in, he would much rather do it himself. He must precisely nail the covers. Watching him is rather endearing.
Scooter acts silly and relishes a life full of companions to share a bed with even in his old age, according to Jessica.
Scooter Did More Than Just Remember His Previous Owner
Even though Jessica was the one who adopted Scooter the quickest, she said that she had numerous calls from people all across the country expressing their want to adopt him.
Scooter, though, already had a new family. Still, they adopted old dogs because Jessica had such a talent for doing so.Scooter has a significant impact here since, according to the ASPCA, older dogs only have a 25% adoption rate.
People had sent Jessica pictures of the older dogs they had adopted from shelters around the country, Jessica told The Dodo, and they had all been motivated by the life story of this Chihuahua.
The Scooter legend endures.
