Probably one of the cruelest things you can do to your pet is to abandon them.
Sad to say, there have been a lot of abandonment incidents in the United States lately. South Florida is most affected by this issue, claims the University of Florida. Initial
Those nasty owners mistreat their animals in addition to dumping them on the streets. To the poor dog, that is the worst thing.
This tale had to be recounted because one such incident, which occurred in Broward County not too long ago, is really unsettling.
Sadly Heartless Owners
A couple driving through South Florida one chilly February day observed something odd in the middle of Broward County’s Florida Everglades.
A miserable thing huddled up on the filthy ground murmured gently in the darkness. That was a dog, they recognized right away.
Not even wanting to face them in the eyes, he felt filthy and depressed. They saw his great weakness and believed he had been abandoned.
Days had passed while this poor dog went without food and gave up on the possibility that someone would ever discover him. He was going to pass out soon.
If the couple was to save the poor dog, they would have to move fast and with little time. They searched for assistance for almost four hours without success, though.
On Duty Officers with Big Hearts
The couple claimed that despite their four full hours of phoning all the rescuers and organizations, no one answered. At last, the police arrived.
Arriving to answer the call of a “extreme case of abuse” were Broward Sheriff’s Office officers.
One cop gave the dog some food and drink right away when they arrived so he could survive the trip.
Though the poor dog was so feeble that he was unable to even get out of his position, the cops managed to win his trust somewhat. Although it was really challenging to get him to the car, this dog eventually made it. He required help.
These fearless cops genuinely demonstrated how to carry out this noble duty. Boys, great job! I appreciate your service.
Fallout from Inhumane Treatment
As soon as Powder, as they called him, stabilized and they gave him everything he needed, the deputies called Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Rescue.
They replied right away, of course, and took the puppy in. Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Care founder Sandra Dezelen greeted them there.
She grabbed Powder up to give first aid. She knew as soon as she saw him that he had been out there for a while and that his recuperation would take some time.
The following day, Powder had his medical update ready after a number of tests. They came to the conclusion that his redness across his body was a result of a serious infection.
Other than that, they brought Powder to see local eye surgeon Dr. Rob Schneider, who diagnosed him with Entropia. His two eyes also need surgery.
This is all evidence of the possible outcomes of harsh treatment by heartless individuals.
Fresh Start That Actually Made Him Well
Powder was in the capable care of people who were very kind, even though the horrific event he had gone through still plagued him.
Powder’s eye surgery was successful and he recovered from the unsightly red patches on his skin because of the kindness of the wonderful folks at Dezzy’s Second Chance.
Apart from that, he put on four pounds and was once more a joyful, energetic dog who was full of trust because of the kindness of wonderful people. His Second Chance dog brothers and sisters also provided him the much-needed courage to put a smile back on his face.
Though there was no official announcement, Sandra verified in one remark on the “Lost Pet Found Pet” Facebook Page that he had been adopted and is now living a happy, loving life with a family that genuinely deserves him.
It is also our hope that his new family would take all necessary to show him a lot of love and eventually win back his lost faith in humans.
