When he saw a shaking small puppy in need, abandoned in a ditch by the side of the road in St. Louis, Missouri, a watchful truck driver unexpectedly became a hero.
Its life was saved in large part by the driver’s sharp awareness of his surroundings and unflinching dedication to change things.
Though unable to stop, the truck driver did make sure to notify Stray Rescue of St. Louis that a small puppy was in dire need of assistance.
We may have a big positive influence even in our everyday lives by helping individuals who are unable to speak for themselves.
Help Requested
When a Good Samaritan called for assistance after seeing the tiny brown and white puppy trembling in the ditch, Stray Rescue of St. Louis was on there to aid.
They hurried right over to investigate and were shocked to see a tiny dog, whom they named Odella (after the truck driver named Odell who called and finally saved her life).
The puppy started waging her tail the moment she saw Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
She was a little angel—frightened and hungry yet incredibly amiable.
They were unaware at the time that Odella was suffering greatly from numerous injuries sustained after being struck by a car.
Although at first we were unable to determine, our clinic regretfully informed us that she had sustained some serious injuries. X-rays show a damaged foot and a dislocated hip, the rescue said on their blog.
Odell was the reason this tiny 6-month-old girl was at last receiving the attention she so desperately needed.
It hurts to think of her trembling in that ditch all by herself. The truck driver who, for some reason, saw her and saved her life has our eternal gratitude. She starts her recovery trip today, the rescuer said.
Healing Journey of Odella
Doctors had to splint Odella’s dislocated hip back in place and save her leg.
The adorable little infant was receiving all possible care from the physicians and emergency personnel to preserve her leg.
Another femur fracture delayed her recovery process somewhat, but happily, she was entirely recovered and able to run on all fours after a few months.
Odella lived with her foster mother Donna during the whole procedure.
Donna, who had already acquired a handful of rescues, was enamored with Odella, a little angel.
Odella was obviously never going to leave Lochmann’s house from the time she initially arrived.
In a Facebook comment, Donna stated, “She just never left. She arrived, took out her luggage, and that was about it.
These days, Odella is content to live with her mother and all of her furry siblings.
She is the happiest dog ever and jumps about looking for one that will play with her! Her favorite things are her toys and peanut butter kongs, Donna stated.
All of that would not have been feasible without Odell and his generosity.
This adorable puppy went from having her best life with a loving home to lying in a ditch with fractured bones and no one to love her. It only took one call.
